About This Site

What I am up to...

Many years ago, I became intrigued with the name of a little railroad I found laid out on a AAA map. I was about 9 and "Tidewater Southern" just sounded cool.

As an adult, I have become heavily involved in the arena of railroad history and preservation. As a result, I have learned much more about the road behind that name, one of the most fascinating shortlines I have ever encountered.

In searching for data on various railroad projects however, I have found scant information on the Tidewater. Most of the history I have found comes from one or two fans articles from over twenty years ago. In books, only scant picture captions or specialized info on items such as motive power. The TS does have a small historical society, and the recollections of its years preserved in the minds of some wonderful folks, but these resources are not widely known or accessible. The only two websites I have found are still embryonic and/or specialized, including Ken Rattenne's great appendix to his pages on Western Pacific.

So, I will here endeavour to document the Tidewater, before its people are gone and its records scattered and lost.

The pages are, and will be, under heavy construction, so be kind. I have many projects going at once and this is my first real attempt at a website. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any info, stories, photos, or thoughts on the Tidewater Southern Railway, its people, its environment, and its equipment will always be accepted, appreciated, and credited.
