Connections and Neighbors

Central California Traction Company

1995.  Lodi, California.

While the CCT still serves Lodi, this scene will never be possible again.  GP18 1790, the line's workhorse through the late 1990's, scoots down Lodi Avenue heading east toward the main industrial area and the junction with the mainline.  The unit is only a couple of blocks away from crossing over State Highway 99.

At this date, the only shipper left in downtown Lodi was Pacific Coast Producers, which would soon close.  A little over one year later, the city of Lodi would finally get the trains out of the street when PCC stopped rail service and the line was cut back to just east of Highway 99.  The end of service to Sacramento in 1998 would make Lodi the north end of the road.  However, Lodi's traffic is now booming and new shippers could double the carloadings seen in 2004 to almost 6000 annual cars.  The CCT remains very much alive.
