probably 1947. Tuolumne Bridge, Modesto, California. Judging by the steam engine style classification lights, which appear to have disappeared from the 44 tonner soon after delivery, this shot
was probably taken in early 1947. The Tidewater's first diesel is powering a northbound freight across the massive Tuolumne River bridge and into Modesto. In a few blocks, the train will be on trackage that probably still bears
trolley wire. The little workhorse will outlive the trestle and probably everyhing else seen in this photo.
