A unique and rare photo by Kenneth Germann captures 70 tonner 743 in the midst of
what looks to be a major rebuild at the Western Pacific's Jeffrey Shops. The prime mover is clearly visible and every piston cover and likley every piston and connecting rod has been removed. Some components are visible on the
scaffolding next to the engine. Many interesting details are revealed once the hood is off, including the exhaust manifolds near the top of the engine and the surprisingly large size of the radiator. The 743 would soon be back on
the road and, in fact, survives today in South Dakota, although it was recently placed out of service.
