1939. Modesto, California. A scene very few railroads could muster. Venerable 100 leads TS 1 (which, since the train is not on Ninth Street, is helping in the pull) on the line between
Aurora and Ninth. The stock car second back is of particular interest. "The train is shown heading southbound at the Morris Ave crossing. Virginia Ave runs behind it. The distant substation belongs to the Modesto Irrigation
District and was the main MID substation at the time. MID Lateral #4 (an irrigation canal) runs to the photographer's right, out of the frame."
