During World War II, the TS leased its steeplecab 106 to the Sacramento Northern in exchange for SN's 601 and 602 box motors.  The more powerful 106 was better utilized on the SN and the two SN motors allowed the Tidewater to move more of its shorter trains, supplementing old 100 and occaisionally joined by a CCT box motor.  While the 601 had been a regular visitor to the line, assisting the 100 and 106, this period was 602's only documented time on the Tidewater.  During the WWII lease, the TS, which always used trolley poles, scrapped the pantographs off of the 601 and 602.  The 602 left Modesto after the 601, remaining until approximately mid-1946.

The 602 was built in 1912 as Oakland, Antioch and Eastern 102.  It was retired in 1948 and saw very little use as a freight motor after its war-time stint in Modesto.  Its last period of heavy use was its time on the TS.  It rarely if ever used on the SN after its return until being converted into unmotorized bunk car MW83 in 1948.  In 1963, it was donated to the Western Railroad Museum and is currently stored there in unrestored condition, the last surviving SN box motor and perhaps the only surviving electric locomotive that served on the TS.
