The Tidewater's freight roster came about due to a complex union of forces that saw parent WP using the good credit of its subsidiaries to finance fleet additions and the revenue from the carhire enhancing their bottom lines.  In the span of only 4 years, the railroad went from owning a single, ancient wood flatcar to fielding a fleet of 90 modern cars.  They would all but disappear some 20 years later, absorbed into the WP's own fleet.
