This grainy blow-up from a Guy Dunscomb photos captures a contradiction in most WP rosters.  WP 124 is widely reported to have been set aside and retired in October, 1947.  However, here the locomotie is clearly under steam about 6 months after that date.  Another photo appears to show the 124 in Modesto later in 1948.  Perhaps some new evidence will shed light on this story.
