A very shiny 1 appears to have been recently shopped. The details would date this photo before the late 1930's. Sometime in 1938, the single compressor would be replaced by a cross compound type and a more modern style headlight would be applied. The "cowcatcher" pilot would give way to footboard sometime in the mid-1940's. The cleaness of the engine allows us to appreciate several small items, including the decorative banding on the air compressor and the classic marker lights astride the smokebox.
