November 21, 1955. Oakland(?), California.
This photo appears to capture 132 at her final resting place, the National Iron and Metal Company in Oakland, CA. Already stripped of her
headlight and mainrods, she will soon be reduced to piles of junk and consigned to the ages.
Of particular note here is the tender. Sometime after April 1952, the 132 was in an
accident that destroyed its tender. Like the 132 herself, this replacement was purchased from the Sierra, coming off of Sierra's 18, which had recently received a wood-carrying tender for movie work. This is the only photo I have
encountered to date showing this second tender and its smaller lettering. It appears that the roadname was done in the same style used on the 44 ton and 70 ton diesels. Research indicates that the 132 and WP 0-6-0 164 were the
last steam locomotives logging non-excursion milage on the Western Pacific system. The last steam engine in revenue service on WP proper was 2-8-2 WP 329 in June 1953, while the 164's operation in October 1953 was possibly a light engine
move. It appears that TS 132 was set aside in late October or early November 1953, having worked the fall packing rush in September and October. It was sold for scrap on October 10, 1955.
