
The Tidewater often used WP, and later SN, power over the years, as well as loaning/leasing locomotives to its parent and sibling. During the electric era, CCT box motors were occaisionally seen as well. While any non-prohibited WP power could show up, especially in diesel years, some were more frequent visitors. Locomotives prohibited from service on the TS include all WP steam power larger than and including the 2-8-2s, all U30Bs, GP40s, and GP40-2s (before the 1980's). Although some timetables and books report that U23Bs were prohibited, several photos exist that document them in Modesto and working the mainline. Also, some U30Bs were photographed on the line. In the final WP years, GP40s and GP40-2s began appearing. All six-axle power was prohibited from the TS, however, observers have reported occaisional appearances of UP SD40-2s on the Tidewater since 1993.
