November 22, 1972.  Stockton, California.

Even with the strategically placed light pole, this is an excellent roster view of RS1 746.  The engine hasn't been wearing the green and orange colors for very long, but its already acquired the dusting of road grime picked up by hard working motive power.

Atop the long hood, a mechanical employee tend to the engine, likely filling a storage hopper with sand.  One of the WP's home-built sand hoppers can be see behing the 746's nose.

This view also illustrates the 746's multiple unit connections.  In is unknown if these systems were still operable.  No photos have come to light showing the RS1s operating in multiple with each other or any other motive power.

Click on the cab area for a close-up view of the cab roof details and the front end walkway for a close-up of the MU connections.
