If there is any single scene that could be called the quintessential view of the Tidewater Southern, it would be the Modesto terminal in the 1930's.  Here, TS 100 leads 4-6-0 1 through the terminal while TS 106 waits on the Motor Spur to the right.  This classic view can also be seen in photos from the Bill Volkmer and Charles Savage collections, as well the painting by Mike Kotowski on the opening page of the website.
