Little is known about this piece of equipment, reported in the Official Registers of Railway Equipment as the only Tidewater freight equipment until the 1940's, when it was replaced by flat car 400, another car with little documentation. Former WP employee Karl Peery forwarded the following information from some equipment valuation forms dated December 31, 1927. While these forms are known to not always be accurate, the mention of a wood flatcar purchased in 1913 is intriguing. According to surviving records, the car was numbered TS 1. This number would have conflicted with the Tidewater's first two steam locomotives, both of which also wore that number.
Number 1 Flat
Body: Wood Underframe: Wood Capacity 60000 (lbs) Number 1 Flat
Purchased F.O.B. San Francisco, Grand Total Cost 472.58
Remarks: Purchased Feb. 13, 1913 from N. B. Livermore and Co.
No record as to when or by whom built.
"The (N. B.) Livermore Co. was a dealer in RR equipment. For example, it sold off at least some of the SP's old steam commute cars when the local lines in Oakland, Alameda & Berkeley were electrified. (Which may also be where the TS acquired its sole passenger coach, used
behind the ex-CP 2-6-2T before the overhead was operational -EJV) I believe that the OA&E bought one of their construction steam locomotives from them." -Bart Nadeau
